About the Event
Let’s get our hands back in the soil and celebrate spring and Earth Day!
NOTE: Due to construction still going at the Monroe Public Library, this event has been moved to Union Presbyterian Church (2707 5th St., Monroe -- by North Park).
Join us for a two-part event, celebrating and learning from the inspiring stories of Green County area women committed to stewarding our land, sharing stories and learning from each other.
10:00 am - 11:00: Composting 101: Easy ways to improve soil health
Come learn composting basics and develop a better understanding of soil health and how to improve yours, including composting tips for both city and country dwellers.
Tonya Gratz with Green County Soil & Water Conservation will take us through the key ingredients of building healthy soil and what we all can do to actively steward our land.
Hear the inspiring personal stories of local Soil Sisters and Stewardship Ambassadors with the Women, Food & Agriculture Network on the various ways they have improved their soil with composting.
Open to the public. Beginners and newcomers most welcome.
Locally baked cookies by Danielle Matson of Hidden Garden Bakery will be served.
11:00 - 12:00: Conservation Learning Circles for Women
Calling all area women interested in learning more about conservation and connecting with other local women and resources:
Please join our Learning Circle, an opportunity to gather as a community to learn from and inspire each other. This Learning Circle model intentionally provides a safe space for story sharing, networking and collaborative learning. We all have something to both share and learn together.
This second hour Learning Circle is specifically for women.
Soil Sisters t-shirts and other swag will be available for sale!
Also, the Monroe Library will be hosting from 10 am - 1 pm:
Make your own "Create a Grow Kit" to get your garden started (Sunflower, pollinator, salsa)
Using a compostable egg carton, plant seeds according to a theme:
- Sunflower: different varieties of sunflower seeds
- Pollinator: lots of different flowers
- Salsa: Tomatoes, peppers and cilantro
- Try your hand at making different types of garden seed markers
- Take home some seeds to plant! (Purple coneflower, milkweed, black-eyed susan)
